A roof has a shorter lifespan that most of the other components of your house because it is the shield against the sun, rain, and wind. The average lifespan of a roof is 20 years. Should I File An Insurance Claim?
If your roof has been compromised by a weather event such as a tornado, a hurricane, a hail storm, etc. then yes you should file a claim. Your home owners policy should cover losses due to acts of nature. On the other hand if your roof is wore out due to age, a home owners policy is not going to cover natural wear and tear.
